Today’s review
is on the first dry shampoo I ever tried, a mini bottle of Cedal dry shampoo
for dark hair. I didn’t really get the hype around dry shampoo, so I wanted to
try some but I didn’t want to buy a full sized bottle in case it
didn’t work for me so I bought a mini bottle of Cedal in Priceline for $3.99.

On that note
I’d like to point out that this tiny bottle lasted a relatively long time; I
don’t use dry shampoo frequently but this bottle lasted me about as long as the
Polished London full sized bottle did (review coming soon). Although
considering they were about the same price maybe that’s why. Also the spray
nozzle on the mini bottle was a good even spray, but if I held it at the
recommended 30 cm away, I couldn’t feel anything so I tended to spray at around
half that distance. Whether that’s because the nozzle was weak or because I was
doing it wrong I’m not sure.
At first I was really
annoyed with this product, because it made no difference at all to the greasiness of my
hair. I would spray it once or twice at the roots of the hair and feeling the
product there, thought that was enough, waited 2 minutes as per the
instructions, and then combed it through with a wide-tooth comb. After combing,
my hair felt exactly the same as before, greasy at the roots and with less
volume than freshly washed hair.
Eventually I came across a video that told me one of
the common mistakes people make with dry shampoo is not using enough, and
although in the video she didn't use a lot more than me, I decided to give it
another go, and sprayed each section of hair 5-6 times. This worked better; my
hair had a bit more volume and didn't look greasy, but with so much powder on
my scalp I could kind of feel it and it was a little stiff. I didn't really
notice it after a while though.
In terms of
colour, I have very dark brown/black hair, so there was no way I was going to buy normal dry
shampoo in case I ended up getting white roots. The colour of this dry shampoo was kind of a dull grey
that didn't really match my hair, but since I only sprayed it at the roots of
sections you couldn't see it anyway, and when I brushed it through it wasn’t so
obvious. If you have brown hair on the ashy side, or mid brown hair, the colour
match would be great for you.
So it was an ok dry shampoo,
but only after I realized I had to spray a lot of it, and it wasn’t that
comfortable for me to have in my hair. Perhaps it's worth noting though, that I have very thick hair, and fine haired people might not need to spray as much. There was a decent amount of product in
it so if you’re looking to try out Cedal’s dry shampoo I do recommend buying
one of the mini sizes, especially since if you do buy the full size, you can keep
the mini in your bag.
I’ve since discovered that
dry shampoos produce different results in my hair to most of the reviews I’ve
read and that may be due to hair type. So bear in mind that if your hair isn’t
like mine, you’ll probably get a different result.
