Clean & Clear essentials moisturiser review

So, working through the backlog of products I went through this year . . .

*I remember still seeing this moisturiser on priceline shelves like last week, but the Clean & Clear website (no Australian one) shows only a “Dual Action” moisturiser in their essentials range, so this review might not be relevant to that formula. It looks like it’s the same product + emphasis on salicylic acid though.

The essentials range from Clean & Clear appears to be meant as a good basic range, for when your skin doesn’t have any particular problems ( you know except for acne because why else would you use a brand called Clean & Clear?). And that's pretty much how I felt using it too, ok moisturiser, not amazing, not terrible.

The moisturiser wasn’t runny, but it wasn’t thick either, nice and light on, no greasy film but it didn’t feel like it’d absorbed straightaway like some moisturisers. It definitely wasn’t an intensive moisturiser so I wouldn’t recommend this for people with dry skin, but if you get a little dry sometimes then this moisturiser did the job.

Now this product is supposed to help prevent pimples and blackheads and while I didn’t feel like it did anything, it also didn’t make the pimples I had worse so that’s good. It also didn’t irritate my skin. The packaging is sturdy, but flexible enough for me to squeeze, which is great (doesn’t it piss you off when you get a squeeze bottle THAT DOESN’T SQUEEZE D:<) the nozzle is small but the product is thin enough that it comes out easily, and you can control how much you want well.

I didn't smell anything in particular when I used this moisturiser and the fragrance ingredient is the last thing on the list so it shouldn't affect anyone, unless you're really sensitive to fragrances. Salicylic acid is the 6th ingredient in this product which means it’s likely to be in significant volumes. This is probably the ingredient that's supposed to back the claim that this moisturiser helps prevent pimples. Supposdly salicylic acid is only really effective in concentrations of over 2% and while I don’t know what percentage this might be, being in the top 10 ingredients is usually an indication that the active ingredient actually serves a purpose.

This also makes me think that the “Dual Action” moisturiser on the website might just be a re-branding of this moisturiser (or a very similar formula) with more of an emphasis on the salicylic acid.

Overall a good basic moisturiser, great if you don’t have any particular problems, if you do you’ll need more intensive stuff than this. I can’t remember how much it cost, but it couldn’t be more than $10, and I probably bought it on sale closer to $5.

Effectiveness: 6/10
Feel: 7/10
Packaging: 7/10
20/30 or 6.6 repeater/10 (I’d make it a 6.5 out of 10)

would I repurchase?
Maybe, if I didn’t have anything else I wanted to try
